Sorry I haven’t posted…we just got back from family camp! It was lots of fun! Here are pictures of our adventures:
Some music by the Alzen family
The father/son project this year was to make boats! Each team/family got four 6′ x 6′ sheets of cardboard and three rolls of duct tape to build a boat capable of holding two people!
Our team consisted of Dad, me, and Denver Bontrager. Our boat was designed like a canoe for speed and made it doubled-hulled for water tightness, but we were a little worried about stability…
We named our craft the Cardboard clad MERIMAC.
After the boats were built, we painted them to make them waterproof (ish) and then headed out to the lake!
Everyone came down to watch.
The first group gets started…
This craft was made up of three pontoons strapped together. However, the duct tape gave out and the pontoons filled with water after only going a few feet.
Unfortunately, our boat did not have the hope for stability and we capsized as soon as we pushed off from the dock. We still swam it across anyway which, as one bystander put it, “was an honorable thing to do”
We tried removing one of the hulls and trying again
No luck…oh well, still lots of fun!

Also, school has started! That means I won’t be able to post as often but I’ll still try to keep it fairly recent!
